My new Nortel Blog

I've worked with the Nortel telecommunication equipment since 1991. I felt it was time to start brain-dumping some of my vast technical knowledge of some of their more popular equipment.

In this blog I will attempt to share little pieces of programming that should be something that any administrative type can do. Such as changing the clock, reprogramming a button, changing LD dialing permission, and a bunch of other stuff.

Also, I'll try to cover small little troubleshooting tips and maybe a few cute, benign hacks.

Yes, I know Nortel (aka: Northern Telecom) is having money problems. But, they have a TON of equipment out there that will be out there for a while. Plus, it's almost a given at this point that either Avaya or Siemens will buy the Enterprise communications division. So, it's not like they're just going to disappear

    Nortel Guy,

We've enjoyed your youtube tutorials and learned a great deal.

We are making preparations to move our small 10-room school to a new site next year where we will likely migrate to a SIP-based phone system.

In the interim, we'd like to use our legacy Nortel Norstar System's MOU port as a school bell system. Our local Nortel/Ayava folks tells us we can't without a BCS. We're looking for a quick solution to get us by without purchasing a discontinued BCS unit. We've found a PC based bell system that offers an analog output that I think we could connect to the Nortel System MOU port. Since our classrooms do not currently have DND buttons, we think this could work. Do you have any advice for us? Thank you, an advance, for your assistance.
